Introduction:
the present study, we aim to explore the impact of social media on young people's mental health. With the increasing popularity of social media platforms, it has become a significant part of their daily lives. However, the long-term effects of excessive use of social media on mental health have not been fully understood. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between social media usage and mental health among young people.，Methods:，We conducted a survey among 1000 young people aged 12-25 in China. The survey collected data on their social media usage habits, mental health status, and other relevant variables. We used descriptive statistics and regression analysis to analyze the data.，Results:，The results showed that excessive social media usage was negatively related to mental health. Young people who spent more than two hours per day on social media were more likely to experience anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems. Additionally, social media addiction was associated with poorer academic performance and increased risk of suicide.，Conclusions:，Our findings suggest that social media should be used in moderation by young people to avoid negative effects on their mental health.
